MBT shoes don't get the style vote
Problem is, said shoes might work wonders, but a) they look like orthopedic devices and B) they're pricey and only available from specialist shops. Skechers have made a small foray into this market with the Shape Ups, but they remind me of something the Spice Girls might have worn circa 2001, and the brand doesn't exactly scream fitness now does it? They're also rather unattractive. So what do you do? Reebok have created the EasyTone trainers for this gap in the market, which contain balanced pods in the sole- to make you slightly more unstable as you walk, and force the body to work a little harder.I was kindly sent a pair by Reebok to trial- read on for my thoughts.
MBT shoes don't get the style vote
First thoughts on the trainers is that they looked like something you'd pick up in JDSports- in fact you can pick them up there! Nothing about them screams 'strange' or ‘weird' or 'dieting shoe', which sadly is the connotation given to those seen wearing MBT's and FitFlops. The colours were slightly less bright than the image I'd seen of them, and the gold sheen wasn't the most attractive of colours. They do have other styles though, so that shouldn't necessarily put you off. Trainers and fitness are an easy combination, relating as naturally to each other as marmite and toast or McFlurrys and fries (the last one is a personal favourite). But wouldn't is be nice if you could maximise your workout, without having to go to a gym? Many people wear trainers in every day life. so the thinking behind fitness shoes such as the MBT's and Chung Shis; is to make your everyday activities (like walking to Asda/running for the train) a little bit more cardiovascular by creating a shoe that works the body harder.
They fitted comfortably, but I would quibble they were slightly large- I'm a size 7, which is a European 40, and the trainers said Size 7/41 (?!) which left me with some wiggle room on the toes.
I've previously tried all the other brands on the market and can fully assert that a days wear of MBT's or Chung Shis' leaves your legs feeling heavy, tired and unwilling to wear such heavily weighted shoes again. One day of wear with these was very comfortable, and I didn't feel like my legs were knackered out.
I've yet to see any change in definition or tone, but will keep you posted.
